a lino block print (or linocut) is a form of relief printmaking using a sheet of linoleum. relief printmaking basically means that the image sticks out, much like a rubber stamp.
1) draw the mirror image of your design on a sheet of linoleum
2) using a linocut gauge tool, carve out all the negative space (the white parts) of the image
3) using a brayer, roll ink evenly over the linoleum plate. the ink will only touch the parts of the linoleum that were not carved
4) place the linoleum plate face up on the printing press and lay a piece of paper directly on top
5) apply pressure by running the linoleum plate and paper through the press
6) carefully pull the paper from the plate and ta-daa! your image is transferred
giclee = museum quality... this is a high quality process typically used by museums and professionals to produce high quality, large format art. in my case, a giclee reproduction is a high quality reproduction of an original piece of art (usually a painting or monoprint).
